Lugubrious

Lugubrious.

Excessively Mournful.

Some days it really hits you. My babies are in fact not babies anymore. They no longer require me for nutrition (directly that is), they hardly require me for anything.
Okay, that's not true. They won't give 4 year olds drivers licenses. But that is the feeling in my heart today. My babies are gone. They have turned into these two people that I hardly recognize. They are so grown up. Even my precious little boy, the one who needs me for everything, told me today, "No, I do it myself". How dare he?

How did the time pass so quickly? Where are my babies?

Why am I crying?

Lugubrious.

Thoughts for a Thursday

Life has been crazy. Like running in circles chasing my tail crazy!

I spent 7 days in Sedalia for the Missouri State Fair! It was great. The state fair is one of my favorite places on earth. I estimate that I have spent probably 200 days at the state fair in my lifetime. Wow.

I have not been grocery shopping for two weeks. And thanks to D&D Main Street Market and their fabulous produce I still don't need to go to the grocery store.

Speaking of produce...I have made up a couple recipes the last couple days that have been pretty dynamite. Last night I used 2 big fresh tomatoes, and one red pepper, with about a 1/2 pound of bacon, salt, pepper, and a few splashes of italian dressing, tossed it with capellini and chilled it a bit. The veggies were raw and this dish left a super fresh flavor. It was awesome. Then tonite I had more cooked capellini I needed to use so I tossed 3 various colored peppers and one big tomato together and cooked them down a bit before adding bacon and pasta then coating it all and heating through. Sprinkle with a little parm. Mmmmm!

The cooler weather of the past couple days has gone me super fired up for fall and football season. Then this afternoons announcement that Derrick Washington has been indefinitely suspended from the MU football team made me very sad! We are taking the kids to the JC Jays football game tomorrow. Pretty sure that Sherman is more excited than the kids!

Just when I thought we were going to get a good routine going, we find out that Sherman is going to spend next week in Orlando for work.

We are taking the kids swimming on Saturday for what I assume will be our last outdoor swim of the year.

I need to remember that if I think life has been crazy the last few weeks that ain't nothing compared to this fall. With football, weddings, reunions, friends, family, and fun we are fully booked!

I have started shopping for Halloween costumes. There are a lot of very cute ones out this year. But just like clothes it is much easier to find something for a girl than a boy.

I never promised that this blog would make sense, just that I was going to write here!

Thanks for joining me for another episode of Thoughts for a Thursday.

Hopefully I will find some good deals to share with everyone this weekend.

August 13, 2010

Today is Riley's 4th birthday. She is stubborn, insistent, kind, loving, and funny. And I can't imagine her any other way. The day she was born changed our lives in more ways than I could ever have imagined.

Second Birthday

Third Birthday (almost)

And my beautiful four year old now.

Rushing Around

Ten years ago I was embarking on one of the most amazing journeys of my life. I was packing my bags and moving to Lathrop Hall, for what is still one of my favorite weeks of my life, Rush Week.
I talked, chatted, kibbitzed, laughed, cried, ranked, gushed, and dreamed my way through the week. As I was leaving the final house, on the final day, I pulled out my cell phone and called home. I told my mom that only one house felt right. What would I do if they didn't want me? I was already resolved that if my bid card the next day had any other letters at the top, I would give them a polite, thanks, but no thanks.
The next morning standing on Francis Quadrangle listening to the hum of 1000 teenage girls waiting, I could hardly stand it.
After listening to the singing and chanting everyone was at even more of a pitch. Then we each got an envelope. I opened my slowly.

Kappa Delta.

I was going right where my heart knew I should be.

That was the last moment of Rush, but the first moment of sisterhood.

As we hugged and screeched in delight I felt so at home and at ease.

I know that the Greek system is certainly not for everyone. But that week and those women changed my life.

I wish that I could be on campus again, I wish that I could be that 18 year old full of hope, enthusiasm and endless possibilities again.

I hope that Kappa Delta, Epsilon Iota is remembering that this week is about more than skits and straight lines. It is about sharing love and sisterhood with a new group of women looking for a home for their hearts.

Gone Fishin'

We loaded up the family truckster early Saturday morning for the kids first fishing trip. Armed with new rods that were birthday gifts both kids were giddy.

After we got our rods set up, luckily success was quick to come around. Davis got the first fish of the day.

But Riley was not far behind...

Whether this was the biggest fish of the day is debatable, but it was the biggest I got a picture of. And the only fish that Davis was taller than Davis.

Riley got to reel this one in all by herself. She is well on her way to a genuine love of the outdoors.

After fishing tapered off it was time for a BIG lunch. And cake.

And then naps.

Thoughts for a Thursday

Today was my Friday...tomorrow I am off to go on a field trip with day care. We are going to Bonkers. Who ever came up with Bonkers is a genius; and a shitty cook.

I just downloaded 183 pictures of my kids. They are both looking at the camera in 2.

My heart really goes out to the students, parents, and community that were affected by the bus crash in St. Louis today. While I am amazed that only one student was killed, I can't imagine the impact this will have on those young people. And prayers for the family of the other person who was killed.

Tonight we are having Chicken Salad Sandwiches because I have leftover chicken and I am refusing to go to the grocery store until after my husband gets home from work.

I actually wish it was raining so that I had a reason to not go outside besides it being hot. And it is incredibly hot.

MU Football started practice today. If you LOVE football like I do, or even if you just like football, give this website a gander www.powermizzou.com those guys do amazing work. To find official posts look to the author to be GabeD.

If you don't love football, what consumes your every weekend from August though January?

Don't forget Tax Holiday starts tomorrow in Missouri!

Shopping

Hobby Lobby is featuring a 40% off coupon this week. You can print it online and it is good on any one full price item. They also disturbingly have Christmas decorations on sale. And some CUTE fall decor.

KMart has a good amount of kids clothes on discount and clearance.

Kohl's has a lot of kids clothes at 80% off. Great if you need to replace some tshirts to make it through the fall (read if you have boys) or if you are stocking up for next summer. And the adult clothes are 80% off too. And if you have small feet there are TONS of shoes.

Nothing else too exciting yet.

If I catch some grocery deals in the ads today I will put them up later.

Hello World

When people say "any idiot can have a blog", they mean it huh?
What my blog is about? Life, I guess. What is the meaning of life? No, no, nothing like that.
Kids, Husbands, Dogs, Money, Family, Work, Houses, Cars. Routine, Lack of Routine.

Some of that, maybe all of that.
